TEACHING ARTIST: Gloria Joy KAzuko Muhammad
8 sessions >> Tuesdays, 4/29-6/17 from 2-4pm

ONLINE

From roots to season changes to stillness, nature can be one of our most powerful teachers. How can we use nature as a tool for healing, reflection, and self-growth? What does it mean to be in harmony and acceptance with all parts of ourselves, our whole selves? With writing prompts, poetry examples, music/lyrical examples, imagery, and literary devices - we will dive into writing about our own self-awareness and inner expansion with nature as the teacher to guide us through this. During this class, we will have time for both writing and sharing.

We will use conté crayons, and the final drawings will incorporate watercolor washes.

This will be an advanced class. Previous experience drawing the figure such as self-portraits and figure drawing is recommended.

One with the Garden: Finding Inspiration in Nature

TEACHING ARTIST: STUART ZOBEL
8 sessions>> Wednesdays, 4/30–6/18 from 1–3pm

ArtHome | 200 Mercer St, Seattle, WA 98109

Nature provides endless inspiration for artists throughout history. In this multidisciplinary class, we will visit various gardens, landscapes, and habitats as well as have dedicated reflection and making time––we may even grow our own plants! Potential sites to visit may include: Chihuly Garden + Glass, the UpGarden Pea Patch, Kobe Meditation Garden in Seattle Center, the Sculpture Park, and others. Through readings, observations, and in-class discussions, you will be invited to respond artistically through writing, drawing/photography/painting/collage, in music, or another medium of your choice.

“Maybe, then, what we need to understand the forest’s underland...Perhaps we need an entirely new language system to talk about fungi… We need to speak in spores.”

“Yes,” says Merlin with an urgency that surprises me, smacking his fist into the palm of his hand. “That’s exactly what we need to be doing—and that’s your job,” he says. “That’s the job of writers and artists and poets and all the rest of you.”

No prior experience needed. Please note that we may change locations during classtime, traveling short distances, or may meet at a designated location for a specific class. Please reach out to the Program Team if you have any access concerns: program@pathwithart.org
