Crystal Pite’s audience favorite Emergence returns after a seven-year hiatus!
“Like the best works of art, it transforms its audience, as well as its participants,” says The Seattle Times of Emergence. This mesmerizing piece is accompanied by Jerome Robbins’ intimate Afternoon of a Faun, Marco Goecke’s solo work Mopey, and a World Premiere from PNB dancer and choreographer Price Suddarth. Each of these choreographers pushes the boundaries of dance with their own unique vision, and are especially remarkable when juxtaposed with one another.

It's a story of friendship, chosen family, and embracing love from unexpected places. Jenna dreams of leaving behind a life she didn't imagine for herself, and the announcement of a baking contest could be her ticket out. Supported by her best friends, Jenna chooses to open her heart to the messier parts of life, which certainly don't come with a recipe.

A hilarious reimagining of the 1997 blockbuster film Titanic by the peerlessly subversive and wacky Dynasty Handbag.
Dynasty Handbag’s Titanic Depression sends up James Cameron’s 1997 Hollywood hit, reimagining it as a hilariously bleak parable of human arrogance in today’s era of runaway, consumerism-driven climate change. Co-presented by New York Live Arts as part of its 2023 Live Arts festival Planet Justice, Titanic Depression is Dynasty Handbag’s first major institutional commission in nearly eight years.
More so a live multimedia event than solely performance, Titanic Depression combines animation, video, soundscapes and improvisation into a story about how a ship advertised as unsinkable strikes an iceberg on its maiden voyage and sinks; fitted with too few lifeboats, Titanic’s poor, third class passengers were largely left behind as the vessel’s wealthier occupants were rushed to safety. The disaster became a potent symbol of the haves versus the have nots.

“Everything is art. Everything is politics.” Globally renowned artist Ai Weiwei (Chinese, b. 1957) is celebrated as a disruptor of artistic canons and a champion of free expression. In his work—ranging across performance, photography, sculpture, video, and installation—he deploys humor and provocation, calling upon his viewers to examine history, society, and culture. Organized by SAM, Ai, Rebel: The Art and Activism of Ai Weiwei highlights the artistic strategies of his 40-year career for questioning forms of power. It marks the artist’s first US retrospective in over a decade and his largest-ever US exhibition.
Ai, Rebel explores over 130 works created over four decades, from the 1980s to the 2020s, offering visitors a rare opportunity to engage with the conceptual artist’s wide-ranging body of work.
